Technische Partners: taking the step towards nationwide growth together

Under the Technische Partners name, Timothy Kapteijn built a group of companies active in electrical installation, security and communications technology. To expand the group further across the Netherlands, he looked for a partner that would bring more than capital. He found that partner in the investment company Nyver. Rembrandt M&A had already guided four acquisitions for the group and went on to play a central role in bringing Nyver on board.

The foundations of Technische Partners were laid in 2008, when Timothy made a fresh start with part of his father’s former business. In the middle of the financial crisis, he managed to grow the company thanks to a strong focus on service.

Over time, several businesses emerged in adjacent technical disciplines. Around 2022, it became clear that these companies would be stronger together, Timothy explains. “We had national clients and wanted to serve them better. At the same time, we wanted to become more attractive to the employee of tomorrow. That is how Technische Partners came about, as a group that brings different technical specialisms together with the ambition to grow nationwide.”

From acquisition advisor to sounding board

Until a few years ago, Timothy handled smaller acquisitions largely on his own. As his acquisition ambitions grew, he wanted to make the process more professional. Through Rabobank, he was introduced to Wouter Jolie of Rembrandt M&A in 2024. That introduction led to the acquisition of Van Eck Elektro the same year. Three more acquisitions followed in 2025 and 2026, including Gouda Elektrotechniek and Van Keulen Techniek.

During that collaboration, a broader strategic question came up about what Technische Partners would need to reach its next phase. Timothy: “How do you make sure the companies keep working together better, without creating an organisation that grows out of proportion? Above all, I was looking for a partner with its own knowledge and experience who could help us think about how to develop Technische Partners further as a platform.”

“They asked the right questions straight away. What does it really take to make the next move?”

No chemistry, no deal

In the summer of 2025, Rembrandt prepared the search for an investment partner and drew up the information memorandum. From early September, Rembrandt led talks with a range of candidates, and several serious parties eventually came into view. One principle guided the whole process. Only a party that genuinely added something and fitted Technische Partners would be considered. Timothy: “Culture, DNA and personal chemistry had to be right. If they weren’t, we would simply stop the process and carry on independently.”

Nyver came forward when the process was already under way and joined the talks through Rembrandt. Despite this relatively late entry, the investment company made an impression from the very first meeting.

Timothy recognised the entrepreneurial spirit and realistic outlook he had been looking for. Nyver did not promise a trouble-free growth curve, but understood that further growth also brings new challenges. “They asked the right questions straight away. What does it really take to make the next move? Which people are still missing? What would you change today? To us, that showed knowledge, commitment and entrepreneurship.” The other shareholders shared that conviction, Timothy says. “In the end, there was no doubt that Nyver was the right partner.”

An intensive process

The whole process took longer than expected, Timothy admits. The information memorandum and candidate meetings were followed by due diligence and the transaction documentation. “It isn’t something you do on the side. There are constant conversations and questions, and you are thinking about the process all the time.”

It was precisely in that phase that the existing relationship with Rembrandt M&A proved its value, Timothy says. “Wouter and his colleagues organised and structured the process tightly and acted as the link between us and the potential partners. Because the deal team knew our business well by then, they could answer many questions themselves and provide the necessary context. Throughout the process, Rembrandt was an important sounding board for us.”

“In a buy-and-build strategy, choosing a partner is about more than capital alone. Whether a partnership lasts depends on whether you are heading in the same direction. Because we already knew Technische Partners from previous transactions and are in ongoing contact with all the investors active in construction, we knew from the outset which parties would be a good fit.”

Constructively critical into the next phase

The transaction was completed on 1 April 2026. With Nyver on board, the dynamics have changed. Decisions are tested jointly more often and investments are more thoroughly substantiated, which is exactly how Timothy envisaged it. “You now have people alongside you who ask why you want to do something, or whether you should perhaps think bigger. That kind of positive, critical input is what we were looking for.”

The ambitions remain considerable. Over the coming years, Technische Partners aims to grow into a national player in electrical installation, security and communications technology. There must still be room for local entrepreneurship, while the companies in the group benefit from shared knowledge, people and professional support. Timothy: “That is why, for me, the partnership with Nyver is not an end point but an acceleration of the course Technische Partners had already set.”
