Dansk Eternit was founded in 1927 by F.L. Smidth & Co., with the goal to expand its activities in fiber cement. The next 50 years, Dansk Eternit has grown to become one of the largest producers of crimp in Denmark. In the ‘80s and ‘90s, the company expanded throughout Europe by applying the existing business platform in all locations, mostly under the Cembrit brand. In 2006, International Building Supplies was acquired. Today, Cembrit consists of the parent company, Cembrit Holding A/S, with subsidiaries in 15 European countries. In the Netherlands, the company sells roofing, cladding, and building boards.
