Hanselman Groep

After nearly forty years of entrepreneurship, Edwin Hanselman wanted to transfer his expanded expertise and risk management firm to a party that could further advance the company. Thanks to Rembrandt Mergers & Acquisitions, he sold his business to the French SOCOTEC, a leading global player in the field of Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC). "Rembrandt played a decisive role in finding the right acquisition partner."

Edwin: "In 1984, I took over an existing expertise firm and ventured into the world of loss adjusting as an entrepreneur. Over the years, Hanselman Groep grew into what it is today: a comprehensive expertise and risk management firm with 120 employees, primarily focused on the construction and transport sectors.

After 37 years of entrepreneurship, I still had a clear vision for the future, but, in all honesty, I no longer had the energy to actually realize that vision. This slowly led me to question whether, at 67, I was still the person to take the company to the next level.

The personal connection was the deciding factor.

Together with a personal advisor and sparring partner, I started looking for a party that could guide me through the sale. After conversations with several acquisition specialists, I was convinced that Rembrandt could help me the best. What was the deciding factor? The personal connection with the team. By nature, I can be quite dominant, so it is all the more important to have someone beside you who can provide pushback at the right moments. I immediately felt this with Rembrandt partner Menno Stuker: an incredibly nice and modest man who complemented me perfectly with his calmness and oversight.

And I'm not even talking about the substantive expertise, because in that regard, Rembrandt also supported me fantastically, from the setup of the first information memorandum to the very last signature. Menno and his team knew exactly what was required and when, and were always easily accessible for consultation.

And I'm not even talking about the substantive expertise, because in that regard, Rembrandt also supported me fantastically.

Rembrandt also played a decisive role in finding the right acquisition partner. I initially thought of a German or English party, so I was pleasantly surprised when a large, unknown French party, SOCOTEC Group, emerged from Rembrandt's network: international, 10,000 employees, a turnover of a billion, and active in the TIC sector.

Thanks to the formidable support of Rembrandt, I was able to transfer my company smoothly and can now enjoy my retirement with peace of mind.

We also had a great personal connection with the people from SOCOTEC. They were impressed with our vision for the future and made it clear that they wanted us on board. Moreover, the top executives of the company took the time to travel to the Netherlands for a company visit. Simply very nice, considerate people who made it clear that they were not planning to completely overhaul our company immediately.

Once again, the personal connection was the deciding factor, although through smart negotiation, we also managed to secure a very good price – a price higher than what I initially expected. Thanks to the formidable support of Rembrandt, I was able to transfer my company smoothly and can now enjoy my retirement with peace of mind."
